Northern Nevada Mentor Program
The mentor program for the Parkinson Support Center of Northern Nevada (PSCNN) is a key element supporting our vision that no one has to face Parkinson’s Disease alone. Whether you are newly diagnosed or struggling with the progression of PD, we have mentors you can talk to. Our mentors also help those with young onset PD as well as care partners who just need reassurance that they are doing all they can for their loved ones.
PSCNN is proud to partner with the Parkinson Association of San Diego (PASD) to provide our volunteer mentors with needed training to give them the tools to provide you with a meaningful mentor/mentee experience.
Things to know about our mentors:
-
They are great listeners.
-
They can share with you how your experiences relate to their own experiences.
-
They can guide you to resources that are appropriate for your specific situation.
-
They cannot and will not provide medical advice but may offer ways to approach your medical provider to help them better understand what you’re feeling.
-
You and your mentor will decide together how best to meet your needs, e.g. meet in person or telephonically, how often - once a week, once every other week, etc.
-
Everything will be held in the strictest of confidence.
How It Works:
