Support

Our goal at the Parkinson Support Center of Northern Nevada is to connect people living with Parkinson's disease and their loved ones with all the resources available in northern Nevada that we can find.

Support Programs include support groups  (we call them PD Community Groups), our Mentor Program, as well as financial and legal resources.  We realize that the support of the person living with PD includes the emotional and financial well-being of the person, their family and care partners.

PD Community Groups provide a place for people impacted by Parkinson's disease and to share information and experiences.  This includes people living with Parkinson's disease, families, care partners, and friends. Groups may host presentations by professionals, such as neurologists with expertise in movement disorders, fitness trainers with PD experience, financial or legal planners who can help with medical billing and insurance issues, home care providers, etc.

Most PD Community Groups are open to all people living with Parkinson's disease, families, care partners, and friends. Some are for people living with PD-only or care partners-only, while others are oriented toward Deep Brain Stimulation or early-onset patients and their families. Groups typically meet on a monthly basis.  Although we try to keep this list current, details may change, so please call ahead before attending any groups.

The PSCNN Mentor Program pairs a trained volunteer mentor with a person newly diagnosed with Parkinson's (or their care partner).  This provides someone locally to call or meet in person to talk and brainstorm ways to process the diagnosis and the symptoms.

PD Community Groups

You'll find information on local and online support groups.

We also give links to sites with general information on PD and specifically for Young Onset PD.

In addition, we give some links to some helpful apps for managing medication schedules and keeping track of symptoms.

Care Partner Support

You'll find links to local and online support groups. We also provide information on books and websites with general information on being a care partner for a person living with Parkinson's Disease.

Mentor
Program

We have partnered with the Parkinson's Association Mentor Program to help connect Northern Nevadans with PD mentors. There are mentors who provide support to those with PD and their care partners.

Find a mentor, set up a call, and get guidance from someone who has walked in your shoes.

"Don't Give Up" is a message of hope and resilience dedicated to all of those who battle the non-motor "Parkinson's disease symptoms that you don't see," but that heavily impact quality of life.

It is an invitation to look at a broader picture of what living with PD is, from the perspective of newly diagnosed and young onset PWPs who are determined to never give up.
